Located on the edge of Europe, where East meets West lies an enchanting history of culture, irresistible food and an overall unique fast-paced urban city beats to its own tune which continues to grow prosper, so I simply fell in love with the city at first sight.

If you’re planning your trip, here is what you need to know:

1. When is the best time to go?

*A good time will be around May to August. I went in August during the summer because believe me you will definitely not be disappointed as the city brings so much life when the sun shines every day.

2. Which airline and airport?

*Either Turkish Airlines or Pegasus Airlines are good which gets you to either Ataturk or Sabiha Gokcen airport. I chose Pegasus because at the time when the travel season is busy, the fares were reasonably priced at £200.00 in contrast to Turkish Airlines which was £700.00. I was a little weary at first because I only looked at the reviews on Tripadvisor after booking my flight, but honestly I didn’t have a bad experience and my journey was fulfilled smoothly from A to B with no delays or any issues. 3. Do I need a visa?

*The answer is yes and the process is an easy 5 mins. You can either do it online at https://www.evisa.gov.tr/en/ which costs £16.00 or at the airport.

4. Where to stay in Istanbul?

*Now this one is subject to preference as it depends on who you’re going with or what you find comfortable or location convenience. For me I don’t mind sleeping in a bunk bed, sharing bathrooms as long as the place is at top notch cleanliness of course. So I stayed at Bahaus Hostel. This is perfect if you’re on a budget, its £12.00 per night with breakfast included, awesome Wi-Fi, comfy beds, clean bathrooms, super close to the city, an awesome lounge to relax and see the view of the city and I will not forget to mention friendly staff!! Also the hostel staff can help you with an airport shuttle which is £10.00 from a mini van or £20.00 with a private taxi. All you need to do is let them know a day before.

What to do in Istanbul?

There are plenty of things to explore in the city. All you need is the time and energy. So here are some recommendations:

*The Blue Mosque

*Hagia Sophia Museum

*Topkapi Palace Museum

*Grand bazaar

*Sultanahmet Square

*Taksim Square (This is really good if you’re interested in the nightlife and to party).

*Crossing the Bosphorus by boat:

I did this in the first day of my trip because the sun was out and I thought why not enjoy it whilst you have the rest of the time to spare. This is a really top notch highlight for seeing such stunning views of the commute from the ferry between the European and Asian continents. The starting point is from Eminönü Ferry Terminal (on the south end of the Galata Bridge) and the Kadiköy (at the north end of the Galata Bridge).

Food and Drink in Istanbul

If you’re a foodie then you’ve come to the right place. Turkish cuisine is amazing from the delicious delightful doner kebabs and the succulent sweets of Turkish delights, baklava and kanafi. The streets of Istanbul has plenty of restaurants as well as tea and coffee shops. Don’t forget to try Turkish coffee. As an avid coffee lover, it has a rich and strong brew.

Now you have all of these advises, just go for it and book your next adventure! Also, if you have any questions or have been to Istanbul, you can always tweet me and let me know your experience: @sitilondoncityx
